Prancer

Characters exclusively White. Gender roles reinforced, with father portrayed as cold and gruff, and dealing with practical things on the farm, while Aunt Sarah cooks and shows more warmth toward the kids. It's suggested Jessica will live with her aunt because she needs a female figure, while her brother can stay and help on the farm. While Jessica has a tea set and is treated like "just a little girl," she shows courage and physical strength in finding practical solutions to problems. There are references to "mental patients" acting "crazy" on a full moon, and the term "nuts" is also used.

A child falls from a tree and is knocked unconscious in the snow, climbs on a roof, runs away from home, walks alone at night, clings to the side of a moving truck, and agrees to clean a neighbor's house without parental knowledge. A reindeer decoration falls in the street, narrowly missing a car, a sled runs out of control and crashes through a garden, a bullet wound is shown in close-up on a reindeer's leg and is removed by a doctor who also gives it an injection. The death of a parent is mentioned within the central family. Characters are threatened with a shovel and a scythe, with a child saying, "I'm going to slice you into little pieces." Later a child threatens to strangle another. A hunting rifle is fired as a warning, and someone threatens to shoot a reindeer. There is passing reference to a butcher potentially cutting up the reindeer and eating it. A parent shouts aggressively at a child a few times. Pushing and shoving takes place between siblings.
